How to Simplify Your Life

How to Make Your Life Simpler

Life can be stressful at times, and this day-to-day tension can lead to relationship difficulties and even health problems. That’s why it’s important to learn how to simplify your life.

According to a recent study, between five and seven percent of Americans are engaged in some form of voluntary simplicity. This movement began in 1981 and has spawned magazines, websites and books. From downsizing to de-cluttering, there are numerous things you can do to make your life less stressful.

If you want to know how to simplify your life, I would suggest trying the tips below. Before long, you may find your stress level (and your blood pressure) lowering dramatically.

Eliminate Debt

Nothing contributes to a stressful life like being in debt. Before you do anything else, develop a plan to pay off all your debts. You can’t believe the sense of relief and pride which will follow.

This should be your top priority when learning how to simplify your life. If you can do this, all the other suggestions on the list will seem easy by comparison.

Learn To Delegate

Don’t try to do everything yourself. In order to simplify your life, it’s important to delegate responsibility to others.

At home, make sure that your spouse or children pitch in with cooking and cleaning. It is, after all, a team effort.

At work, try to delegate simple yet time-consuming tasks to those around you. When you’re working towards a deadline, little things like making copies and sending faxes can only add to your stress level.

Make A List Of Priorities

Find out what’s really important to you and write it down. What are your goals? What matters most to you?

When you have a firm idea, try to concentrate more on these things and less on others. If it doesn’t coincide with your primary life objectives, see if you can eliminate it completely.

Go Off The Grid

Today, most people have an email account, cell phone, pager and fax. From time to time, try cutting yourself off from these stress-inducing devices. While it might feel strange at first, you’ll enjoy a more relaxed environment and have time to concentrate on your own personal growth.

Learn To Say No

Some people just can’t say no. They want to please everyone around them, so they take on more and more responsibility until it becomes unbearable. Learning to say no is a great way to simplify your life.

Downsize Your Purse or Wallet

Most of us have things in our wallet or purse that we never use. If this describes you, get rid of those items and get a smaller wallet or purse. Only carry the essentials.

Laugh Every Day

If life can’t be fun, then what’s the point of living it? Take time to laugh every day. If possible, laugh with someone else, as this strengthens the bonds of a relationship.

Take A Yearly Vacation

We all live on this planet, so why not get out and see it? Taking a yearly vacation is a great way to broaden your horizons and get away from the stress of your daily life. At least for a week, all your troubles should hopefully melt away.

Get Plenty Of Sleep

Most people don’t get enough sleep, and this can lead to poor health, irritability and stress. Set a time to go to bed every night and follow it. You’ll feel better, look better and have far less tension.

Be Spontaneous

Most of us have a day-to-day routine which becomes a grind over time. Try breaking this pattern by being spontaneous. You don’t have to go skydiving, but even something as simple as eating at a new restaurant can fill you with a sense of adventure.

Spend Time With Yourself

Every day, make a little time to spend alone. Do whatever you like during that time, from exercise to meditation. It’s your time, so enjoy it.
